2009 Bianchi 928 Mono-Q - Crankset Replacement
(Pictures below)
Can I replace the *stock FSA Team Issue Crank (+MegaExo bottom bracket) with an Ultegra first gen. Hollowtech and Crankset?
I picked up this sweet Bianchi 928 Mono-Q last week.
The carbon crank is nice - but too long! (175mm). I've got short legs and I really like the 165mm crank.
Possible Issues?
10 speed versus 9 speed? The FSA Crankset is 10 speed, the Shimano I'd like to use came from a 9 speed. Is this ok? Should I transfer the chainrings (looks like the same BCD)
Chainline? I presume the Shimano Crank with the 109.5 BB gives me the correct (standard) chainline. Is this right?
Thanks for any advise!
Picked up this bike last week.

175 mm - too long for me!
I think this is a Mega Exo external BB
I'd like to install this Ultegra Crankset (Came from a 9 speed I believe) Hollowtech Generation 1

Nice Bianchi. I used to have that bike but the 105 version in gray.
Your question- you should be able to swap over the FSA rings to the Shimano crank as long as the BCD is the same. Are both cranks using 50/34t chainring combo?

Also check if the BB on your Bianchi is British or Italian thread. From the photo it looks like the BB is marked British but can't see clearly enough. Your Shimano BB is British and 99% sure the Bianchi is too but could possibly be Italian.

Yes, you can do the crank swap and it'll work. You'll need to change the bottom bracket -- the Ultegra crank you have pictured takes only the Octalink V1, which you have right there in the photo, not a Hollowtech.
As for the chain ring swap, the Ultegra has a 130 mm BCD. If your FSA cranks are 50/34, they're a 110 BCD and won't work.
Chainline will be fine. 9 speed rings with a 10 speed chain isn't a big deal; that has worked well for many riders.

Thanks for all the great input...
I thought I had the same BCD. I'll check again to see if I they're both 130 and that I can swap chainrings.
If not, I'll just try the Ultegra as is - I suppose I can always get 10 speed rings.
Will report back when the deed is done
PS getting my tech terminology sorted out. Yes It's Octalink V1 - not hollowtech!
