Bottom bracket help
 

Trying to remove the crank from a Trek Multi-Track 700. Crank says Altus, chainrings say Shimano hyperdrive (if that makes any difference).

Pulled the left crank off the square taper with a regular puller.

Then I was able to crack the adjustable side cup loose (shimano multi-spline bb tool, 16" cheater bar, lefty-loosey), and unscrewed it a couple turns, but it didn't come all the way off, it got harder and harder to unscrew until the whole crank was bound. Screwed it back in some and the crank can rotate again.

Doesn't seem like the BB can just slide out so I can get at the fixed cup, like I'm used to.

Also it's an E-type FD mount, if that makes a difference, I've never worked with one of those before.

FWIW this looks like the same bike, the cranks have the same plastic tabs in them, but the chainrings look different

Its a cartridge, you have to remove both sides of the crank. It's not going to come out the non-drive side. Sometimes the cartridge is attached to the ND cup. When this is the case, the cup alone is not coming out.

Typically its attached to the drive side.

Either way the entire crankset must come off first.

This is going off your limited description with no mention of removing the drive side crank.

I agree with Bill. Since you didn't say you did- you need to remove both crankarms to remove that BB. The mounting plate for the front derailleur will come off when you remove the BB cartridge from the right side.
