Kinda playing by ear here. Slowly finding dupes, trips, and quadruples of the most used tools from my shops One garage, two distinct shop areas, Someone gave me an awesome metal topped work bench and I reconfigured one shop area into two shop areas this summer. Anyhow we do quite a bit of camping in 3 out of 4 seasons. I can bring some bikes to work on or help other camper/riders with their bikes. I’ll throw other tools in as I’m packing I’m sure. I’m trying to avoid that though. I always have extra stands to throw in the back of the truck, too. Voila! Instant bike shop! |
Adding...
I’ve been lucky with my eBay purchases. The gaps in my tools collection are closing. I try to bring enough tools on my rides to fix random loose parts. The box is for our camping trips when I can’t be at the home shop working on a bike. I can enjoy camping and working on my bikes and the same time. |
I have the BX-2 and like it a lot. Since I live in a condo with a no bike in the unit rule, I have to work on my bikes elsewhere. Being able to carry my tools to my bike makes life and bicycle maintenance easier. My only problem is the box is too full. I have to be selective in what I pack.
Your box is filling up nicely. |

impressive! multiple extra bike stands to take camping? :foo: wow! :thumb:
this thread brings up a good point, for some ppl, me included. meaning, having multiple tool requirements such as in three cars & bike specific stuff when traveling w bikes like on camping trips. these are issues I deal with quite a lot. or, at least, enough to address with multiple tool bags. oh, & when my kids went away to school w apartments I equipped each with their own small tool bag. I think my son still has my really nice, small, 1/4" drive socket set! I should take that back now that he graduated & moved back home ...:innocent: |
Done...
Just finished the box for the most part. These are the bicycle specific tools. There is also an old “Superb” bike tool box in the truck. There are other general, crossover tools...wrenches, adjustable(monkey) wrenches, pliers, snips/nips, etc., in other boxes in the trailer and the truck. There is room for the few lubes and greases that I use. I have an air tank that has never left me without pressure. Valve adapters take care of any valve disparities. There are also numerous bike pumps here and there in the truck. I also just modified a PCS-10 clamp to fit my traveling PCs-1 stand. I won a low eBay bid on a newer, PCS-10 cam lock clamp that allowed me to cut 1” or so off the tail, and with some washes and a spacer, I was able to upgrade my old beater stand. I’m looking to buy an eBay wag-5 portable wheel dish tool and maybe another derailleur hanger tool. Just reminded myself to some multi size spoke wrenches. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d8656bb2c.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1212db629.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3b023c4e5.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5bfa6c269.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...904db2de9.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...97050e178.jpeg Box only weighs 30lbs.! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1dbf9005d.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b0e26cb15.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0bca0f9fc.jpeg |
I looked into getting a Park BX-2.2 or some kind of pro mechanic style portable tool case. I've used several different variations to work mechanical support at events and personal use on bike trips and races. I found an inexpensive case from Harbor Freight that's only $29.99. I went and checked it out and the quality was decent, so I picked one up and have been using it for a few months now. I made a little review video if anyone is interested. The Park tool case retails for $299.99, so unless you can find a used one at a good price, the Harbor Freight case is an option.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jddwEQZmwc8 I bought mine for really short $! I have two other Park Tool tool carriers. This box intrigues me the most. Great youtube, too! |

Simple...
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c6d7cda6f.jpeg I’ve got a couple of these. |
I wanted a BX-2, but I'm not sure it's really worth the money to me. I was somewhat inspired by the #toolboxwars hashtag on instagram https://www.instagram.com/explore/ta...ars/top/?hl=en
I actually think that some of the smaller toolboxes made by people with that hashtag are more interesting to me, i don't want to carry a full toolbox when I'm traveling, and at home I would rather have them in a toolchest |

But they sure look beautiful! |
