Are All Non-Threaded Cantilever Posts the Same Diameter??
Seeking to replace original pads on my first MTB: Mongoose IBOC Pro circa 1987-89? (med metallic blue with black spatters)...
Any info on the exact model year would be nice. THX! |

About 7mm is pretty much the standard for smooth post type pads. Many brands can be found with Kool Stop being one of the most popular in that they offer various compounds. Not sure by what you mean WRT the exact model year. Are you asking about the bike or the components? Or something else? Andy

I've never given 2nd thought to the post diameter. Been using canti style pads since 1967 (Mafac Racers, then Mafac cantilevers, then Shimano cantilevers using their pads and Kool Stop pads and probably a few others.

Described the bike not the brakes.. you could put different brakes on., the posts on the frame are very similar, Cantilever & V..

Post a picture and we can guess the year, the Shimano parts will have date codes on them as well. For date codes on parts, or casting dates on forks etc sometimes you have to account for the time it took to assemble and ship the bike. So it can be a model year later than marked, although any date in the serial number would probably be correct.

You have what I consider to be the coolest groupo made, for mountain biking. I have a 1988 Tomac signature by Mongoose with almost the same parts in my garage. It is my third and most favorite MtB.
