Shift cable for 1972 Super Sport

I'm putting a 1972 Schwinn Super Sport back together and the pancake end of the cable that is attached to the shift lever is considerably thinner than what is out there (new). Newer, thicker cable ends do not fit into the shifter slot. Does anyone still make these thin ones or do I have to file, crush or sand them down in order to fit properly?

They are a lead alloy and can be easily cut to size with a file..

The shifters were probably made by Huret. If you Google Huret derailleur cable, you will find many choices

J&B Importers carries said cables. If your LBS has an account with them they can add a few cables to their next order and likely not charge you for any shipping. If you're fixing up such an old bike having a relationship with a lbs will be a good thing more then once JBI - Product Details Andy
