Fedex sucks

So i crashed last weekend, and as far as i can tell screwed up my rear derailuer. I spend a couple hours trying to fix it but to no avail. After the crash it would go over the gearset into the spokes when i went into the lowest (biggest) gear.
Well after trying to fix it i was left with it either going into the spokes in lowest gear and being decent otherwise, or it not going into the spokes and it skipping and missing.
It looked bent to me but i wasn't sure, i guess it definetly is.
Anyway to the Fedex sucking, I ordered a new deraileur from cambria.com and paid for 2 day air. Well that was on Wednesday. They shipped it to fedex on Thursday morning...well Fedex's website says it should arrive on Monday!
What the hell is that, i paid the extra money, and in no way is that 2 day air! Even understanding Sunday doesn't count, its still not 2 days.
So no i get to either not ride this weekend, its gonna be a freaking sweet weather weekend, or attempt to ride with my **** up deraileur.
Thanks Fedex, you truly suck.
My LBS had it but it was close to $20 more, $55 compaired to over $70. I probably could have talked the price down...which im really regretting not doing. Needless to say i'm not a happy camper.

How about some rotten cheeze to go with that whine?

joeprim 06-24-05 09:02 AM

You could try bending it. I had one that needed bending or ride without the largest gear. Good luck.

Man.........EVERYONE knows UPS and FedEX DO NOT deliver on weekends

Chris2fur 06-24-05 09:14 AM

Well, that's irritating, but just hope it arrives in decent condition. You'd really think they sucked if you'd gone through my experience with them (FedEx Ground). They smashed the box one of my frames was in so bad that the rear drop-outs were sticking out of the box. The head tube was dinged in at the other end. They just left it on the porch and ran. I had to fight with everything I had just to get the automatic $100.00 insurance that's "included."

capwater 06-24-05 09:15 AM

Hmm... you order on Wed they have FedEx ship on Thu. Could be you ordered late in the day, could be Cambria dropped the ball. Either way, not Fed Ex's fault. Then ya need to look at the 2 day (business) timeframe. Thu to Fri is one. Fri to Mon is two. Pull your calculator out of your azz and quityerbiatchin'...

I love crap like this.

Here. Read this: http://www.fedex.com/us/services/us/2day.html

So . . . CBO screwed you by telling you that your 2-day delivery DID NOT MEAN Saturday, unless you paid an extra charge for Saturday delivery.

Sorry about your crash. Vent if you need to, but don't blame FedEx. Sounds like they did /nothing/ wrong.

nirvanaschains 06-24-05 10:39 AM

^Ah, see, i knew they DID deliver on Saturdays, i didn't know or see the option of paying extra to have it delivered on saturday. I figured it should be here on saturday, but since i didn't pay extra, i guess thats why its not gonna get here then.
Had i knew that i surely would have either gotten it from the LBS or had it overnighted if that was an option.

Order stuff with overnite / next day / second day is a crap shoot at best. Depends on the time the order is placed, how long the vendor queuing is and the distance from point a to b.

Best to just take the standard shipping and wait.

cydewaze 06-24-05 10:48 AM

I prefer UPS to Fedex. UPS will leave boxes at my door (behind my shrubbery) or with my neighbours. Fedex will NOT even after I have filled out the form (four times) permitting them to. So when something comes Fedex, I have to race down to the local Fedex office (a 40-min drive) before they close.

It's more an office/local screw up though, and not a general Fedex one.

UPS drops stuff at the door no problem. FedEx used to say some BS about not being a safe neighborhood so they couldn't leave a package on the doorstep. Funny thing is it's a totally suburban place AND I have a FedEx senior VP living right next door!

Are you sure that your hanger is not bent? And why blame FedEx? It's pretty common knowledge that the package delivery services do not deliver on saturday unless you pay extra for the service. If you really needed the item before the weekend, you should have gone with overnight delivery. Or better yet, paid a visit to your LBS. Your LBS might have found all you need is the derailler hanger straightened out or replaced.

neil0502 06-24-05 11:37 AM

A little more insight, kids (my last job was as Supply Chain Manager for a two million package/year shipper. We were a $20Million account for shippers) . . .

When you start shipping with UPS, they basically tell you (unless you're Travelocity or Dell or another /huge/ shipper) "Sorry, but if your package is damaged or stolen, we will not issue you credit. FedEx, on the other hand, has a reasonable/responsible claims policy. Therefore; UPS will drop packages. FedEx gives its station managers and couriers the last word as to whether they feel safe leaving the package at the door.

Let's say the FedEx courier did drop the package without you there . . . and it gets stolen. Boy, are you gonna' be pi$$ed.

Word to the wise: if you do business with FedEx -- even if you simply /receive/ quite a few packages with them -- reach out to the station manager in your area. The driver can tell you who that is. First, they're incredible people. Second, they can *get things done*. Most FedEx'ers have been with the company for quite a while. They've learned to work the system.

Again, sorry about your crash. I think most of us have been there....

Yes, before having some rotten cheeze and whine and ordering a new derailleur, did you check to see if your derailleur hanger was bent and/or reset your limit screws?

must have read my mind

nirvanaschains 06-24-05 05:10 PM

Did you not read my post?
I said i spent a couple hours tinkering with the thing. I've tuned it before, and gotten it better than some LBS's yet i could not get it to even come close to acceptable.
It looks like its bent, but i cant really tell how i should try to bend it back. It doesn't look straight but it doesn't simply look bent one way or the other...just messed up.

Don't you have another bike. I mean bike forum is for bike nuts isn't it? Most folks here have at least three bikes.

Urban Assault 06-24-05 05:20 PM

wahhhhhhhhhhh. As another guy who has been involved in shipping for 20 years, if you must have something immediately, get it locally. I ship with UPS, FedEx, DHL and many other companies. Over 99% of my shipments are delivered to my customers on time and intact, but when I need an item now, I will gladly pay extra to have the item in my hand before I go to bed. BTW, in my experiences with making claims with FedEx, they have been extremely helpful and have paid claims very quickly.

...we now return you to your normally scheduled program, already in progress.

interceptor 06-24-05 05:32 PM

I find fedex to be superior to ups! They have ALWAYS delivered when they said they would.
When I pull up the tracking info....ON THE DAY or THE DAY BEFORE! Everytime! I have had
about 150 ebay transactions and numerous Newegg transactions..satisfied everytime.
I have no affiliation with them, just think they are good.
Two bikes shipped UPS...sticking through the boxes...damaged. Also had a 1950's light up
clock with a plastic face(awesome item)..damaged by UPS! It was packed very well but the box was run over! I spent about 3 hours one day at a UPS loading terminal waiting for a truck to get in with an important package. MAN!! I could not believe how they were handling the freight. Throwing, dropping
kicking! I guess doing it day in and day out the packages don't mean anything anymore! AMAZING!
Everything that I have received damaged or late....UPS...no b.s. !!!
I don't know, maybe I have been lucky but that is my experience.
When someone ships you something, go online and check the tracking info. I have found many times that it is the person. They get it there AFTER they tell you it was shipped. Recently someone said they sent my package and the day I was expecting it (did not check tracking info) they did not even ship it yet!
I have found fedex to be cheaper also.............

va_cyclist 06-24-05 06:24 PM

Fedex friggin' rocks. In the old days before Fedex there was no such thing as affordable overnight, or even 2-day delivery. There was the post office, and private couriers. Nowadays if people have to wait an extra day because a merchant delayed a package drop suddenly it's all "Fedex sucks." Wow.

Bekologist 06-24-05 08:27 PM

I think, generally, if you're in a hurry, shop locally. Now you've ruined your weekend to save less than twenty bucks? What would your LBS think?

nirvanaschains 06-24-05 08:52 PM

When the item only cost $50, $20 bucks is quite a lot.
I was many just venting, as i mentioned early, i forget that saturday deliveries are not included in the cost, you have to pay extra for that. Since Cambria.com doesn't mention anything about saturday delivery, i completely forgot about that. When i ordered it i figured, 'its wednesday, 2 day air, i'll definetly get it for the weekend'. Cambria seemed to be a little slower with shipping it, and of course the whole saturday thing.
As i said, had i realized i wouldn't get the package by saturday, i gladly would have given the LBS the money. I figured, however, that i could have the best of both worlds...i was wrong.

HAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trek Al 06-24-05 09:44 PM

You should have just bought it from your LBS. Shipping must be at least half of the $20 you "saved" and you would get the part now rather that waiting on some shipper. You screwed up.

Al

nirvanaschains 06-25-05 08:53 AM

Nope, i saved $20 when including the $12 shipping, not counting shipping i would have saved $32.
