RD-6800 GS compatible with CS-HG800 11/34?

Guys,

I currently run 50/34 and 11/32 11spd on both of my road bikes(DA 9000 mixed with UT 6800 rear mech). With the new generation UT8000 coming with 11/34 cassette, is it possible to run the older gen RD-6800 GS with the newer gen 11/34 cassette? If it works out, I'll have 1:1 gear ratio on my bikes. I know my aging knees would like that. Also, do I need a new and longer chain? I just hope it would be as easy as just swapping out a cassette, no need to buy other new parts such as a new chain or even an RD-R8000 GS.

Thanks.

AX

Yes. I do. It also works with a SRAM 11-36 cassette. Just get a JIS #2 screwdriver and crank down on the B-screw.

Same as @wgscott, I ran a 6870 GS derailleur with a SRAM 11-36 cassette so yes, it is possible to run a Shimano 11-34 cassette.

Whether it will actually work on your bike can only be determined by trying.

It should work though. Lots of guys are doing it.

That's great, guys. Thanks. I didn't know SRAM 11/36 works too. Which SRAM model is it? PG-1170? I'll give it a try to see if I need a new chain.
