Help removing bolt from loose rivnut
I'm trying to install a water bottle cage on the frame of my Trek FX 7.3 and need some help.
First bolt came off easy, second one will not. The rivnut, which houses the bolt, is loose and turns with screw. I'm not allowed to post links apparently so add HTTPS to this URL vimeo.com/316312250 As you can see I've tried needle-nosed pliers and holding the rivnut down with a flathead -- nothing. I'm afraid to drill into the frame and if I try gluing it, won't I just glue the bolt too? Any ideas on how to remove this bot? |
depends but i usually use good pliers and hold the riv nut. you can also wind fishing string around the base to bind it up. finally drill it out if it corroded
|
Asked your Trek Dealer yet?
file off the flanges and the riv nut will fall in, and when you take out the BB it will fall out..
then install a new riv nut.. |
Try gently locking a vice-grips pliers onto the rivnut, then unscrew the bolt. if you manage to get the bolt out, follow the instructions in this video to fix your loose rivnut: |
I made a tutorial video on your rivnut issue a while back. Maybe it would be helpful.
