What chain to replace Shimano CN-IG70?

My old cn-ig70 chain has to be replaced.... local bike shop said the cn-hg40 is the best replacement , I bought it but want to make sure it's the right one for that ig replacement. I miss the silver of the old ig chain but it is what it is since they apparently discontinued the ig70

If you're looking for a very nice pretty silver chain try the KMC x8.99 it's beautiful. It also has the advantage of a quick resettable master link.

"speeds" number... (you dont say... KMC makes them in all widths, 'speeds' means chain width.. the shiny plating adds a bit to the cost..

Th CN-IG-XX chains were 6/7/8-speed width. The "IG" chains were advertised for MTB use and the "HG" chains as road bike chains but the practical differences were insignificant. As noted, any 7/8-speed chain will be a suitable replacement.

The "IG" part is important if you are (still) running an Interactive Glide cassette. These had wider teeth that are sculpted on both sides for better shifting, and need a chain with enough clearance between the inner plates but without being too wide on the outside. I've got a NOS one in my stash, but they're pretty rare now.

EDIT: I was inspired to lay one of my 8-speed chains on said 7-speed IG cassette and it engaged fine. I think a lot of modern 6/7/8 chains are implicitly IG compatible, even if they no longer bother to say so. The SRAM PC-870 looks nice and silvery, you could try that.

Yes it is an interactive glide cassette. I found some info over at Sheldon Browns site that says sram is interchangeable with ig and hg.
but that you shouldn't use hg in ig.. Which brings me here to those that know more than me lol ... I hate overthinking a chain but Thanks

t I like the looks of the kmc x8.99 as the bike is alum. and the old chain was silver. If the kmc works then I will go that way.
