Axle spacer for a narrow hub

Hi so i’m throwing a bike together at my bike coop, and the rear hub is a little narrow with the wheel I have. Will this setup cause me to get a bent axle?

Thanks

I would worry more about mis-alignment with the frame. Make sure wheel winds up exactly between the brake shoes where it's supposed to go. As long as the wheel is perfectly in line with the seat tube I wouldn't worry about it.

The imaged set up will actually reduce the common source of bent axles, the significantly unequal distance from the bearing cone to the locknut. With such a long spacer on the LH side this dimension will likely be far more even, side to side. Thus the axle will see less loading on the RH cone edge then is typical. Andy

That's pretty much how my mid-2000s era Globe Carmel comfort hybrid/errand bike was set up by the factory. Big gap between the hub and left dropout. No problems, and I haul heavy loads on that bike sometimes, including rides on rough gravel and paved roads.

Well...isn't that assuming the brakes are exactly centered, and the pads evenly worn? Wouldn't it be better to make sure the wheel is centered on the chain/seat stays?

I think that's what he means when he's referring to the seat tube.

Its the big drop repeated, that can bend the axle odds are you trash the rim in the process ..
