Silca pump replacement hose

I'd like to have a longer hose on my 1980's Silca Pista pump. Home Despot has this, 50 inches long, a good length for me.

Will cut off the unnecessary connectors. Is there something else I should get, or is this adequate? Thanks.

Hardware stores often sell compressor hose by the foot. Buy as much as you need and a couple hose clamps to attach it to the pump and the chuck and you'll be fine.

You might also try a truck parts store. They have hoses in short sizes that probably will match what you need. Bring your pump hose with you.

While we're on the subject, is there a better hose clamp than those stainless steel ones? Those are kind of awkward and painful when pushing the chuck onto the tube stem. Mine came that way, for 5 bucks, but I wouldn't turn down an improvement if there was one.

Use hose clamps that tightens by turning a screw.

I understand the problem with those hose clamps as I replaced the OEM chuck on my Park floor pump for a Hirame and had to use one of them. AFAIK, there is nothing better or as secure. Buy the smallest one you can find and wrap it in a couple of layers of electrical tape to cover the edges and bumps.

That's exactly what's on there right now. HillRider's suggestion, to wrap with with electrical tape, seems like a practical fix.

Use an Oetiker (pinch) clamp instead of the worm drive clamp.

Auto parts stores usually have air hoses by foot. It is usually good to call around to make sure that they have the inner diameter you need - for a pump it should be 3/16" but check to be sure. Ebay is also an option but takes longer.

I think the problem with oetiker clamps is you need a special tool. Don't know if you can make do with something like channel lock pliers or even diagonal cutters, but then again, you don't need it too tight.

There are other hose clamps available too. Fuel injection hose clamps don't have the protruding metal strap, but still have sharp corners, which you can file down a bit. Or maybe snap grip hose clamps. They're plastic, but again might have some sharp corners that you can file down or cover with tape.

I have used zip ties to hold a hose on a pump . No problem with that.

The Home Depot item is actually 50 feet; I think it's a typo. I have the similar Husky PVC/rubber one for my air compressor. The inner diameter may not work with your pump; most I see are smaller.

At 50 feet, your foot pump may not even be able to get air out the other end.

That sounds just right. I'll give it a try.

I use these in the 3/8" variety for all air hose repairs. From the Dero Stand in front of the bike project to my personal use inflation tool. It is a Milton air blow tip gun with a pressure gauge and a Silca presta tip attached. See Pics, Smiles, MH

Yikes! Home Despot lists the same item as both 50 inches and 50 feet. Since my original post, I have ordered hose by-the-foot from McMaster-Carr. Will report on how that turns out.

End cutting pliers work just fine to crimp these. CV boot pliers work too.
