Replace old shifter?
Shimano shifter on old Trek 820. This shifter is broken. Is it replaceable?
It would be nice if I could order some replacements online then swap them out. If so, would these work? If these wouldn't work, can anyone recommend a pair that would? Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/SHIMANO-Tourney-SL-TX50-thumb-shifter/dp/B004ZACLV2/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1M1Y7QIFJON23&keywords=shimano+7+speed+shifter&qid=1557761849&s=gateway&sprefix=shi mano+7+speed+%2Caps%2C193&sr=8-10 https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8df76932a8.jpg |
Those will work. Any Shimano 7-speed shifter will work.

What's broken about the current shifter? If it's that the lever moves through it's range without any cable movement, or ratchet involvement, happening then the shifter might just need to be solvent cleaned/flushed then relubed. Andy

Thanks everyone for the replies. The bike is a junker and I'm trying to keep it alive. I'll probably end up giving it to some kid. |
If all you need to do is "shift", these are inexpensive.
