I thought QR was 9mm

So this hub. HB 475, when I look at the diagram from shimano it said that it is a 10mm axle.

Does that mean that all standard QR skewers are 9mm and are going through a 10mm hollow axle?

Most front axles are 9mm diameter. Rear axles are 10mm diameter. QR's are usually 5mm in diameter.

QR skewers that are 9mm are either for a fork clamp, like on a roof top car rack, or an early attempt at what has become a through axle. As John says, most all bike QR skewers are 5mm in diameter. Andy

Terminology pedant

Just wouldn't call it 'tapered', it is machined , stepped down to a smaller diameter .. but cylindrical not conic.

Interesting. I've got some 3-year old XTs I've never looked that closely at, I'll have to check them out.

definition of 'taper'. seems in dispute , not that 9 is less than 10..

It would be more accurate to say it steps down to 9mm
