Does this chainring look worn?

I'd like to buy this used chainring to experiment with gearing. I don't have the experience to be able to evaluate the condition visually. How does it look relative to new? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7b39a23fa6.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d61f78cd1e.jpg |
...yes. that does look like significant wear and you probably ought to look for a different one to experiment with.

What do they call that? Shark fins?

It looked worn to, But perhaps not.

Thanks everyone.

Nope. It comes that way from the factory. It's been used but it obviously isn't worn. It still has crisp edges on the teeth. Take a look at what a "real" worn chainring vs a new one looks like

Thr’s a SRAM X Sync 12 speed chainring.
It is designd that way, with shark’s tooth shaped teeth. It is supposed to look like that. Completely normal. -Tim- |
