8 SIS Long Cage RD - STI Compatible?

I picked up a frankenbike, nice frame (Miyata 610).

It has a stock triple but a newer Shimano 8 SIS long cage RD and a spread rear with an 8 speed HG. I want to keep the triple. So, if I'm after a reliable and modestly priced STI brifter set-up, what are my best options? And, how about an 8 speed Sora set, ...they seem like workhorses to me...

Thanks.

I’ve got a set of sora 8 spd brifters that I’ve had for nearly 20 years and I’d agree they’re probably a good choice. Only negative is that I can’t reach the thumb buttons from the drops. If you ride mostly on the hoods they’re great. If you use the drops a lot you might want brifters that use the double brake lever design that’s easy to use from either hoods or drops.
