Upgrade or Stick

Newbie here, so please be gentle.

I’ve a 8 year condor Fratello not ridden in a while, and in climbing back on board am wondering about a few upgrades. I’ve changed out the rim brakes on the front for anew fork and disk, but am wondering about groupset upgrade. My current group set is based on Veloce, but with a few differences. Up front I have a 3x chain set with a chorus crank, the front derailleur seems to be a record, the rear , says comp 3 cog and there’s a 10 cog cassette. The only elements that actually have Voloce written on them are the levers. The groupset was installed from new by the Condor team, and it’s been pretty much faultless in operation.

so I’m thinking of upgrading to a full chorus 11 cog setup , ignoring the brakes which are fine.

i mostly use my bike for commuting , but want to get back to longer weekend rides. I rarely use the ‘grannie’ cog, but it’s useful on the hills. I’m by no means fit, but need to get there. I’m not actually looking to lighten the bike, the heavier it is the more I have to work, and thus the weight I’ll shift.

So upgrade or stick, and if the answers upgrade, what sizing of Chorus bits should be looking at.

thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Never Fix A Running Piece. What advantage will one additional rear cog afford you that the 10 you have will not?

I couldn't agree more.

But surely the Champo Chorus is a better groupset than Veloce , isn’t it ?

Super Record EPS is even better and the Italian & Asian economies need your money.

Better in what meaningful way? Lighter? Yes, a bit. More expensive? Certainly. Makes you faster? Not likely. You already have a Chorus crank and Record fd so what are you getting for a lot of money except one, probably redundant, rear cog?

I run Record brifters and Chorus derailleurs for 11 speed. The Veloce 10 speed setup you have is very good, and I do not see any advantage of going to 11 speed. None whatsoever. Stick with the 10 speed and enjoy the ride.

If your wheel bearings were not running smooth, or you had a set of heavy thick-tread tires, then fixing or upgrading those would likely be worth your time, but nothing else.

Make sure you chain isn't too worn, keep the thing clean and lubricated, and reward yourself for riding enough to wear out your tires by buying yourself another set of tires.

...also, get new handlebar tape when yours starts to look worn and shabby... this will make you fee like you are riding a new bike and costs $20 if you get the expensive stuff.

Thanks everyone. New bar tape purchased, and a bike maintenance stand. Happy days.
