Good point. I get rolling and back pedal a few times to check that.

If you aren't happy with the way that it is for any reason what do you think that you have to lose by lowering it a bit? You can always raise it back if you decide you don't like it.

All the suggestions were good. The Lemond Formula makes sense, and I will use that to get started, and fine tune from there.

What I really want, more than efficiency is preventing knee injury to my old knees.
Read these two articles by Steve Hogg, he helped me immensely, solving fit issues that caused me a world of pain, perineum pain, hip pain, and lower back pain. Getting the seat height correct, for me, solved all of that, and I was able to tour comfortably, even on 70+ mile days. I have zero pain now, after a number of years with a lot of pain. Everyone got my seat heigh too high, and instead it was correct. Don't go by the numbers.

LeMond Method. Greg LeMond says to multiply your crotch-to-floor measurement by 0.883. This figure was determined in the early 1980s by LeMond's French coach at that time, Cyrille Guimard.

This method put my saddle too low by a cm or more. I think it might be because I have larger than average feet and the formula does not takethat into account.

I've had med problems this last year and haven't been riding. I my dotage (I'm 76) I have gotten between 3 and four inches shorter. Because I no longer have knee cartilage I decided to check my leg length. I went from 33.75 to 33.625 so I lowered my saddle for what my last two rides.
Getting a little better so I hope to start riding soon.
