How old is it? R3000 is the current Sora groupset, and only the earliest will be out of warranty now, Would looking to identify the exact cause of the fault initially, your post makes no real identification of what the fault is, if the unit is faulty, go through the warranty process, for the idea of disassembling the shifter, this really isn't an option on any current Shimano shifter.

One cause of shifter problems is a frayed cable. This is a possible cause if the shifter is a few years old. You might try disconnecting the cable at the derailleur, remove the cable, then see if the shifter works. If it does work, the problem is elsewhere. In not, the shifter is definately at fault and fixing it is not easy or possible.
