Cassette compatibility: 9 vs 11

I'm hoping to be able to use a 9-speed bike with a new trainer that comes with an 11-speed Shimano cassette pre-installed. (The bike currently has a Shimano 9-speed cassette). Which of these is the best option (and which will actually work)?

a) Replace the trainer's 11-speed cassette with a 9-speed cassette
b) Use the 11-speed cassette, but with a narrower chain
c) Use the 11-speed cassette with the existing chain

Thanks

Bikes: Too many. Cannondale SuperSix, Trek Remedy 8, Trek Crossrip+ get the most ride time.

Option a is the only option that will work. But it'll work pretty well. You'll need to put a 1.85mm spacer behind the 9 speed cassette.
Option b will not index, like at all.
Option c will literally jam the chain in the cassette.

If you have 9 speed shifting, you need a 9 speed cassette. Nothing else will do

I picked up a Cannondale Quick with Disc brake and original owner replaced rear Derailleur with more expensive 10 speed Shimano SRX that did not allow shifting to all gears so I had to replace with stock Shimano Altus. Why I have SRX for sale. Not everything pairs up.
