Whats better is when you standard frame pump breaks and leaves you stranded... or in my case leaves me to ride with a flat 4 miles home... out of the saddle... !
On a training bike I carry pump and CO2... I have also learned to carry a schrader adaptor, not just for me, but I have come across situations in which someone else has needed it... generally it is normal sized tubes on aero rims... |

Zefal pumps are good, too. |

I suppose you've never ridden so hard you've gotten tired? Wow, now who should consider another sport? |

I raced mountain bikes for about the same amount of time as you. Once CO2 inflators became available, I started carrying one for racing as the races are much shorter, and losing time to pumping would pretty much put you out. For general riding, I carry a pump...and as a big boy, pump my own tires. My comment was geared at someone that might not have the same arm strength, such as some of the (more) elderly clients we get for bike rentals, and that CO2s can be a real lifesaver in situations of fatigue. I have seen some pretty extreme fatigue at events like the 24 Hours of Moab where I did several years of neutral support. I carry one for such an emergency...and have been carrying the same cart for about 7 years now. They're too expensive to use flippantly, and I do reccommend a pump to customers that come into the shop, but our emergency kits placed on rental bikes are CO2. |
Glad to see that sparring match resolved itself on it's own
