It was always nice if you could get the silca pump painted to match your bike frame for that custom look. I could just never get those pumps to work though. I preferred the Zefal. They would work with presta and schrader valves.

Whats better is when you standard frame pump breaks and leaves you stranded... or in my case leaves me to ride with a flat 4 miles home... out of the saddle... !

On a training bike I carry pump and CO2... I have also learned to carry a schrader adaptor, not just for me, but I have come across situations in which someone else has needed it... generally it is normal sized tubes on aero rims...

Same here. Been using them for years with no problems. 105 - 110 lbs of pressure is obtainable with a little effort.

Zefal pumps are good, too.

Harshness...
I suppose you've never ridden so hard you've gotten tired? Wow, now who should consider another sport?

I raced for 10 years and pumped my own dam tires then, I'm now over 50 and still pump my own dam tires! so who should consider another sport now?

Huh, maybe I should. Are the people that lawn bowl at your retirement village nicer than you?

Nah, I'm the meanest one at the village; due to very poor eyesight I mistake the old folks for the pins and throw the balls at them...they don't really like that sort of thing there.

:roflmao: Nice response.
I raced mountain bikes for about the same amount of time as you. Once CO2 inflators became available, I started carrying one for racing as the races are much shorter, and losing time to pumping would pretty much put you out. For general riding, I carry a pump...and as a big boy, pump my own tires. My comment was geared at someone that might not have the same arm strength, such as some of the (more) elderly clients we get for bike rentals, and that CO2s can be a real lifesaver in situations of fatigue. I have seen some pretty extreme fatigue at events like the 24 Hours of Moab where I did several years of neutral support. I carry one for such an emergency...and have been carrying the same cart for about 7 years now. They're too expensive to use flippantly, and I do reccommend a pump to customers that come into the shop, but our emergency kits placed on rental bikes are CO2.

Glad to see that sparring match resolved itself on it's own

Damn. Cancel that order for a large popcorn. Does this argument ever get old?
