Vision Team 35 Comp wheels
Hi. Is anyone familiar with the above wheels - specifically removing the freehub? After the torrential rain we've had for the last few months mine is now leaking rust-coloured gunk all over the spokes and making some horrible noises. I got the axle out easily enough but I can't work out where to go from there. I dribbled some oil inside the free hub and put it all back together, which has improved things, but I'm definitely living on borrowed time there.
Thanks John |
you may already have this, and of limited utility, but:

Turn all the bearings by hand. Play around with the pawls as well. If anything feels rough, service accordingly. Hubs/freehubs are complicated to manufacture but not too hard to service |
Thanks, I'll take a look at that. The main wheel bearings are still really good but the free hub is very rough. I can get a replacement but it wouldn't be worth doing if I had to pay someone to do it - the wheels are too cheap to warrant any real expenditure. I wish he'd show the video the other way around though.

That video is actually for the Team 35, which is different to the Team 35 Comp. However, it does look similar enough in design. Thanks for the suggestion on the bearing press but I think I'll pass on that. In actual fact I'm coming around to the opinion that these wheels don't really warrant the effort. They came with the bike and in some respects they've done ok but I don't really like the deep section rim - it gets quite twitchy in cross-winds. If any of my friends have a 12mm hex key I might give it one more go.
