Larger chain ring for turbo trainer

I have an old aluminum frame bike from many years ago that has a triple chain ring in the front (50, 39, 30). The derailleur is a Shimano Sora for the front with Sora shifters. What I would like to do is to replace the large chain ring with maybe a 52 or a 54 just to make it harder to pedal at a lower cadence as the back wheel spins on the trainer. It would seem to me that there shouldn't be an issue going to maybe even a 54 without changing the smaller rings and of course keeping in mind the bolt diameter? I assume the derailleur on the front may have to be moved vertically higher on the seat tube and possible a new / longer chain. Other than that I don't see a need to swap out the small rings, does this sound reasonable?

You'll need to determine is whether the chainrings are removable, that is, bolted not riveted on; some are; .
