New Bike Problem

Hello,
I just purchased my first bicycle since i was a kid. I was attempting to tighten my rear v brake and once i did whenever i turn the front wheel to the right the brake tightens and when i turn it to the left the brake loosens. I'm not sure what i did to cause this and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This sounds like you shortened the cable housing too much. Just like hair, it's harder to add back than it is to cut. There are inline, barrel adjusters that can let you cheat, but you're likely to spend less by just buying new brake cable housing by the foot.
It is very important that you can turn the handlebars at least 90 degrees without putting tension on the housing to avoid this in the future. You'll never turn the handlebars that far while riding, but you'll avoid unnecessary wear on your cables.
