Cleat Stuck In Pedal
 

I was trying out a new pair of shoes and obviously hadn't tightened the cleat properly. As I was pedaling the screws in the shoe loosened and now I can't get the cleat off the pedal. I haven't been on the bike for almost 2 years due to medical issues so it's almost like relearning everything. At any rate any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you turn the pedals upside down and gain access to the cleat bolts that way and tighten them?

Had that happen to me once, early in my Frog days. It will be unlikely access is available from the other side.
My solution was application of sufficient force to the shoe to free it from the pedal, this was done manually,
not with my foot in the shoe. Then before you tighten
them up again, put some thread locker on the screws, ditto for other shoe.

I had that happen with SPD shoes/cleats. As stated above, I had to use enough pressure to get the cleats to pop out of the cleat anchor plate that is in the sole of SPD shoes. That stripped the threads on the anchor plate. The bolts for the cleats were fine. I called the company I got the shoes from and explained what happened. They sent me a new anchor plate at no cost. I believe that was Performance Bike, but a long time ago.

Thanks for the replys. I only have access to the screw in the front of the cleat. The two in the rear are loose so I can't get enough torque to unclip them and I can't get at them. I failed to mention that they are SPD SL cleats.

With the shoe detached, can’t you open the sprung loaded trap with a screwdriver?

Perhaps get someone to hold t he bike firmly whilst you hold the shoe and twist it to disengage? As long as the bolts are still in t he cleat even if loose the shoe should come off okay. At least it did for me when I had that problem.

Update. I flipped the shoe over snugged the front bolt and was able to put pressure on the tabs on the rear of the cleat forward and twist it away from the bike. Bingo it clipped out. Thanks for suggestions

No one suggested FIRST setting the pedal tension to the lowest before playing tug-of-war with the empty shoe? This place has really gone down hill.

Someone did on a similar thread. OP got the show a nd cleat disengaged by following hints from upthread. Therefore this place is still quite useful.

Actually I did know to release the pedal tension. I haven't been here for a while but everytime I do I got usefull advice. Just sayin'
