Fat Bike BB replacement help

Got a creaky BB, ordered a replacement (used on EBay) but ordered wrong shaft size ID, my fault. I just donít want to make the same mistake twice so thought Iíd ask here for help.

bike spec says: Bottom Bracket =RACE FACE BB-100mm BSA Standard English Threaded

I ordered this shown in pic below, fits up to bike frame perfect, however the Inner bearing diameter is too big at 30mm, so I must need a 24mm nominal? I measured my crankshaft at like 23.75mm diameter.

in other words, I ordered the black BSA Cinch 30mm on the left and I want the Silver BSA CINCH 24mm on the center below per Racefaces web page? Correct?

Anything else to look for? Thanks.

So it looks like you ordered a press fit instead of a BSA Threaded BB.

Not sure what you are getting at wanting to shrink the 30 mm ID to 24 mm ID. Are you wanting to switch cranks too? Just curious, who makes cranksets with a 24mm shaft that is for a 100 mm wide shell?

If you decide you aren't changing cranksets, then why not see if the place you ordered from will swap it for a BSA threaded RaceFace BB that is for a 100mm wide shell?

Not sure what you think an adapter is going to do. Usually such things are more expensive than just getting the correct BB that matches your bikes BB shell and crankset.

It is a threaded BB, I assembled it in no problem. The problem is just the difference of 30 to 24mm shaft as far as I can tell. I don't want to buy a new crankset.

EDIT:. I removed the picture of the bag it came in. The picture I have from RACE Faces web page looks Accurate.

Sorry if my terminology isn't accurate.

Maybe to clarify, this BB has a 30mm ID. I need a 24mm ID.

I just want to make sure I order the right replacement part for my fat bike that specs:. Bottom Bracket =RACE FACE BB-100mm BSA Standard English Threaded

I'm looking at the spec's for the Motobecane 2018 Sturgis NX

It says the crank is a RacFace Ride with a 30mm shaft and for a 100 mm wide BB shell. And that the BB is a RaceFace BB that is BSA Threaded and also fits a 100 mm wide BB shell.

So what exactly are the crank and original bb that you are trying to replace? The number on the bag you showed us matched the number of a press fit BB that is for 100 mm wide shells.

He ordered a BB for a 30mm spindle crank and has a 24mm spindle.

I know of no one who makes an adaptor for that. People to check are Hope, Wheels Manufacturing, Problem solvers, Phil Wood, or Chris King. Or if you kneew a mchinist who could fab a 24 X 30 sleeve. Of course any of those would probably cost as much as just buying the correct BB.

yeah, going to order the correct BB, just checking if an adaptor was worth the trouble. I see it isnít. Thanks

I'm still wondering where he got a crank with a 24 mm shaft. All the cranks for 100 mm BB's I've googled in the short time here are all 30 mm shafts.

And the specs for the bike I think the OP has say it is a 30 mm shaft on the crank. But if the bike is much older, maybe it is.

I physically measured. Shaft and BB are nominal 24mm

That is my bike yes.
ignore the bag, I deleted it.
Bike spec does say 30mm like you said. Yet it measures 24mm!

So now you know you need to find a BB that will fit a 100 mm wide shell and a crank with a 24 mm shaft.

Are those RaceFace cranks? I didn't see a bb for 24 mm shafts on their site that also fit 100 mm wide shell and is BSA threaded.

I wonder if they did something hoakey like putting just the cups for narrower shell in that bike. Maybe something like this ..........https://www.raceface.com/products/team-bsa-24mm

If your old bb has the plastic tube between the cups, then maybe you can just use it in the Team BSA 24mm. I don't remember if the shell plastic tube is fixed permanently in one cup or not. That is the BB I put on my Raleigh when I changed out the crank.

Thanks, yeah that's the one I'm asking about in my first post.

This is the kind of thing that will give me pause in the future before ordering another bike from Bikes Direct...

I also Emailed RACEFACE customer support to see what they reccomend.

I wouldn't hold it against them too bad. Still likely decent bike for the money. Just that in order to sell them at bottom dollar prices, they have to find ways to scrimp. Maybe RaceFace was discontinuing 24 mm cranks and bb's for 100 mm width shells and offered them a price that Bikes Direct couldn't refuse.

I just happened to have my Raleigh torn down and looked at the BB in it. The plastic tube in it does come loose from either side. So if your existing one does too, then I don't see why you can't get the Team BSA 24 mm BB they sell. And if by chance the plastic tube doesn't fit, I don't see any reason why you actually need it other than the slight chance of something loose in the bikes frame getting into the mix and mucking it up.

Yep... I found that just now on RaceFaces site. In their docs, they do mention that some size bb shells they won't have a internal sleeve that size.

Also, some of their docs do show for spindle lengths of 137 mm or so, that they match with the BSA 68/73 mm BB so I'd think that would have to be without the plastic sleeve as 68/73 is the shell width.

Don't know... the OP's email RaceFace so lets see what they say.

I've ordered a few bikes now from Bikes Direct a good value especially for my kids bikes as they outgrow them quickly. I still reccomend them to others looking for bargains.

Yes on reusing the 100mm plastic tube. Will do. I'll also wait to see what RACEFACE customer support has to say.
