Specialized Sirrus X 4.0 - Chainring Change

Specialized Sirrus X 4.0 - comes stock with a 40T chainring - I would like to go to a 34T.
BB 68mm, 24mm spindle, 45.5mm front chainline.

It seems Specialized is using a "direct mount" chainring with some offset.
It is direct mounted with what looks like a 39-tooth locking ring - I can't find anything on a tool that would unlock that - let alone find a chainring that would fit.

pull the whole crank out of the frame, have the bike shop do it.

Oh you're no fun :>) LOL
I'm even contemplating on just buying a new bike with fatter tires and really low gears - have fun with both.
But...ya...thinking about just doing that...take it to the shop.

Thanks !

Update:
Yes, I replaced the Crank & Cassette with,
SRAM NX Eagle Dub Crankset, 175, 32T - Then replaced the 32T with SRAM Eagle Steel Direct Mount Chainring 34T, 6mm Offset
SRAM Dub English Threaded Bottom Bracket, 68mm/73mm Shell
Sunrace 11-46 10-Speed Cassette

Fit Perfectly and perfect chain line !

Might note that this configuration gives extremely low gearing...works great for me for the steep hills in my area but still gives me top end pedaling at 20mph.

Thanks for this information! Really useful for me, as I am looking to do the same thing.

I cannot seem to find anywhere if a SRAM XD freehub will fit on the rear wheel, I was thinking about mounting a GX 10-52 cassette, but it requires the XD freehub to do so.

I've emailed specialized and been to a few shops with no luck. I'm pretty new to this type of bike so any tips are appreciated

I think there is a couple of videos out there...changing it out for a 12-speed hub...far and few between...of a couple of people doing it...have to do a little machine work to get it to fit.
I originally looked in to it and gave up. I'm pretty sure it won't fit without a lot of hassle.
Try to find those videos to give you a good idea !
