SRAM Chain Length
Hello,
I am installing a 12 speed chain on a SRAM Force eTap AXS groupset (2x12). According to the SRAM installation instructions it says to run the chain around the large chainring and large cog (without going through the rear derailleur) and where the end of the chain meets the rest of the chain, add two links (1 outer & 1 inner), then cut the chain and install the master link. However, the way my chain lines up I'd either have to add an additional inner link (for a total of three links) or only add one link (1 inner) all together.
So which is better, in a case like this, to add one extra link (1 inner, 1 outer, 1 inner for a total of three) or only add 1 inner?
Thank you.

Whatever you do you absolutely must be able to shift into the big chainring/big cog combination without strain. I would err on a longer chain; the worst that would happen is a slack chain in the useless small/small combination. You can always remove a link pair later if warranted.

Add 2 inners, 1 outer, + your master link. That's the shortest chain that you can safely use with that gearing combination.
