Shimano Converter for front derailleur

For the life of me I cannot understand what that plastic POS if for on the Shimano 9000 front Derailleur. I have read the darn dealers manual until I am blue in the face and it explains nothing.............HELP!

An image would help a lot.

Cheers

It changes the cable entry angle for appropriate leverage. There was a corresponding tool to help select the correct setting.

I have that manual, page 11 is for the models of front Derailleur I do not have, I have the FD-9000 and still do not understand the operation of that item.

Check page 13. I believe the generalizing of the converter has to do with the cable routing from the BB shell running closer to the derailleur cage (on) vs further from the cage (off).

Without the tool it will be a guess, but maybe using pics off the internet will help.

Worst case, leave it off, unless obvious, and see how it works.

It is for determining which way to set the converter based on which side of the line the cable is on. It doesn't stay on the derailleur. BikeRumor has some setup notes here https://bikerumor.com/2013/03/21/shi...t-impressions/

Screw it, I was involved all day in installing my disc brakes and bleeding them so I am just going to let the bike shop deal with the Derailleurs.

I made a video a while back with some tips on getting this style derailleur set up and adjusted. I also show how to position the converter pin without the Shimano gauge, and do an experiment when you run it in the wrong position.
