Narrow wide chainring compatible with 8 speed chain?

Hello, was wondering if a narrow wide chainring is compatible with an 8 speed KMC chain.

A few years ago I bought a beat up Sirrus hybrid because I liked the frame, it’s my size and very light. I did some work on it and decided to set it up as an 1X8 since it’s fairly flat here and the old chainrings were rusty. I used a Sugino chainring in the middle position and a KMC 8 speed chain. It works great ~99% of the time, however I do drop the chain every now and then, jumping a curb or upshifting into the smaller cogs.

I was thinking of getting a narrow wide chainring but I’ve read conflicting articles on compatibility with an 8 speed chain.

Has anyone tried this?

Thank you.
