Bearing Resource?
happy Friday,
went to LBS to get one of these. It’s 3/16 x 12 came off a bottom bracket on Raleigh Rampar. Shop said no way, niche item, good luck. any idea where I could source such a thing? I see lots of 5/16 x 12 but not 3/16 x 12... cheers!! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ef5ca6a73.jpeg |
The time tested option is to install loose balls, w/o the retainer. Generally a ball or two more will fit. Option 2 is to remove the old balls from the retainer ring and snap in new ones.
I agree with the shop in the uncommonness of this bearing. Which Rampar model? We do see a retainer somewhat like this on small kids bikes but Almost never on adult ones. BTW Raleigh created the "brand" Rampar (it's not a model but a brand) because they were seeking lower cost of manufacturing and was concerned that the reputation of the Raleigh brand might suffer if the Asian made bikes turned out to be problematic. After a couple of years they decided that the QC of the Rampar models was better then the Raleighs (no surprise there) so the Rampar brand was discontinued and the Raleigh name was used for the Asian production. Thank you!

Andy LBS had the same suggestion as you: so I’ll re- install with loose bearings packed in grease. It’s a Rampar R-4, ladies/mixte frame, with north road/tourist handlebars. going to be put into service as the grocery/wine shop/pharmacy commuter here in Watertown, Mass. thanks again! |
The other option is to push the old balls out of the retainer and press new balls in, then re-install the retainer.
