1) Iím using an oil that is SAE-20 and I applied rather generously to bearings which probably ends up on pawls. Learned from local mechanic that putting oil on pawls is only to prevent pawl rust so this may be contributing.
2) the chain angle of 53-30 combo is severe so chain slippage could be happening. Hard to tell when chain jumps to smaller ring if that is cause or effect of pawls slipping.

BTW, I ran across the id360 Mavic freehub in searches, itís not that model.

i have to be riding to make this happen vs trying to replicate on bike stand so hard to watch whatís happening. With Mavic declaring bankruptcy and parts hard to find, Iím frustrated and Iím not a huge fan of the freehub design. With only two pawls/contact surfaces, seems prone to failure but certainly not an expert.
I have never seen the pawl/freehub interface fail on a Mavic hub. Not once. I've replaced tons of freehubs because of worn bushings because Mavic isn't smart enough to use 2 bearings in their freehubs, but I've never seen one 'slip' or become damaged in that area.

BTTT in hopes it helps someone else. It wasnít the pawls, believe it was improper rear derailleur adjustment after new cassette install (around the same time I was servicing wheel bearings). Difficult to pin down root cause because it only happened at high torque and one chain position. Thanks for the posts

Forgot that mechanic also replaced very worn big chainring so that was probably contributing as well.

I agree, that bushing design is a poor substitute for a bearing. I did pick up a parts SL wheel where it looked like a tab on the pawl failed and wedge cockway into the body.
