Part name

I bought a mountain bike, the next day I was adjustung the handle bars (raising them) and I accidently tightened the bolt too tight and it snapped. I am trying to find out the name of the part so I can buy a new one online (isn't a bike shop in my area), but I haven't the faintest idea as to what the two parts is called. I wasn't sure of which forum to post this in, if this isn't the correct forum, please forgive me.

Here is a couple of scans of the bolt that snapped and the part it threads into. ANY help would be VERY appreciated. Thanks for reading

The bolt is just that--a bolt. I'm not sure about availability, though. Check your LBS and at hardware stores. Someone else here may have better advice for where to get a new one, but you might just have to buck up and buy an entirely new stem.

The part it threads into is a wedge, but the wedge should be fine.

Be sure you didn't damage the head tube when you overtightened. Look for bulging or cracks in the paint. Good luck. Not a huge mistake, most likely/

It's a Quill bolt. Go to the bike shop.

Thanks for all the info, but as I stated in my original post, there isn't a Local Bike Shop, but I am sure I can find it online. Again, thanks.

Many Home Depot and Lowes stores carry metric bolts-might try and see if they can match one up.

The correct term is "Expander bolt". The bottom part is a wedge. There are several sizes available, so measure the full length. There may be more than one thread pitch, so get the bolt and wedge as a package. Based on dealer price, they shouldn't be more than $5 for a new set. If you go to a hardware store and get one that's not the correct hardness, it will most likely break again. Too soft and it will stretch, too hard and it will break.

Late night? It goes in the steerer tube, so there's no way it can damage the head tube.
