Brake pad sizing issue

I went in to my local shop to get new pads/cartridges for the Shimano 600 brakes on my current project and they gave me a set of Ultegra pads which are longer.
I just mounted them on the calipers and the tips appear to hit the frame when the caliper is uncabled and all the way open.
It doesn’t appear to be putting pressure on the shoes, as the contact point is when the caliper is fully open.

Is this a problem? I am thinking no because when the brake is cabled and closed it won’t be an issue?

Here’s a pic of the new ones mounted and touching the frame vs the original ones I took off.

Not a problem. Very common thing on V-brakes.

You could add a spacer if the brake bridge & bolt allows. Looks like you don't need much more to clear. May have very little effect on performance during braking.

If it currently opens enough to remove/install your expected tire size, you could also just ignore.

Agree that this is common. I had to add thin spacer washers between the front of the forks and the calipers on a couple of bikes so the pads cleared the fork blades when the caliper was fully open. A 2mm spacer should solve your problem.

Awesome. I didn’t think it was a big deal since it wasn’t forcefully pushing out against the frame and I know I can easily get my 700x28 tires in there. I’ll see if I’ve got a few thin washers too.

thanks!
