Cable routing

Stupid question of the day.

I am replacing the cable for my front derailleur. The cables are routed through the top tube. My question is....how's the cable routed through the derailleur itself? The derailleur itself, has a series of routing grooves. Yeah I know its a stupid question but I have to ask. Here are some pictures.

Thanks!

The way I figure this out is to manually work the ft der watching which way the link with the cable anchor bolt is moving. That is the direction the cable needs to go to pull the link/cage. Your ft der can have the cable path come from either below the BB shell or from above. I believe in your case the cable will descend from above and connect directly to the link/anchor bolt. Were your cable to have been routed under the BB shell then it would have been wrapped around (the plastic part) and over the der, thus turning around the cable's pull force. Andy
