length of chain

Hello, I have an 11 speed road bike with campagnolo components.
I have bought a new chain which fits the above description but I am just wondering how one knows when the chain is exactly the right length.
I imagine that different frame sizes, different cassette sizes and all that can change the length.
Do I just go by the look? Is there an angle the rear derailleur should be in a certain gear?
Is there a correct number of chain links?
What is the rule?
Any help gratefully received'.

If your old chain works in all gear combinations, simply cut the new one down to the same number of links

Is my chain too long?
Go to post #7.
See how your old chain matches up.
If good, cut new chain to same number of links.

Campagnolo has an official youtube channel. In it you will find how to set up and install components (in multiple languages)....which includes how to determine if your chain length is correct.
