Is this normal?
Hi all
Was out on a ride yesterday and got a puncture in my back tyre. Removed the wheel (Mavic Ksyrium Elite disc) to repair the puncture and the part of the hub which the cassette is attached to slid off away from the rest of the wheel. Pictures have been kindly posted by someone further down the thread.
I can slot it back into position and it will stay where it is and the wheel works fine but there is nothing holding it in place at all and it can just slide off again. I'm sure this didn't use to happen. Is this correct/normal? Seems a bit odd.
Thanks for any help!

Write the URL of your pic in the plain text part of your message. Remove the https:// and put a space on either side of the . (dot) Don't try to use the linking tools or file upload stuff.

That looks like your freehub came apart. So, no. Not normal.

Huh ! WTF !
What's the history of this bike? Just got it or have you been doing other stuff to it?

I'm not familiar with what hubs Mavic uses and a side view of both parts would be nice. However, from what I can see you may have broken the hollow hub body fixing bolt (if one is used). I'm sure someone more familiar with the product will chime in. If that is the case and there is no further damage it is easily replaced.

Yeah something broke or came loose somehow. It's not normal. That's about all I can say.

No, it doesn't...at all. The cassette is still attached to the freehub.
ETA: As asgelle posted this happens on a lot of hubs these days. Many hubs (DT for one) have axle caps that are basically a snug press fit. Cassettes have gotten bigger (and heavier) and sometimes the o-ring or whatever keeps the axle cap on isn't strong enough and the freehub w/ cassette just fall off. Make sure the pawls/springs are all there and in the right spots and put the freehub back on. No big deal.

This is an id360 hub. I have one on my road bike and have disassembled it several times.
This hub freehub body is only held together by pressure. If you pull the cassette, or the freehub body with your bare hands it comes apart. There's an adapter with a freehub dust guard for QR or Thru axle (depending on your hub) that slides over the end of the wheel axle, just after the freehub, and its friction with the wheel axle should normally keep everything together.
Shouldn't be a problem when riding as it's impossible for it to come apart when mounted on the dropouts as the adapter will prevent the freehub body from sliding anywhere. Just take care not to loose any part if it comes apart.

I have checked and all parts are present as expected.
Thanks for all replies.
