campagnolo tool kit question, does anyone know what the red circled items are?

I'll hazard they are the guides for the bottom bracket facer. One for English, French and Italian. You screw those in to the bottom bracket, insert a rod which locates the cutter.

Lakerat has it right. The ends of the threaded pieces will have the thread spec stamped on them. The tool handles between them are the handles for threading the guides into and out of the BB shell. I suspect the BB chasing tap set, upper left in the box, is for English threads as that's the most common and what many Campy tool kits were sold with. There are Itl. and Frnch taps out there if you want to spend the bucks. BYW there are a couple of other companies that make tap sets for the Campy BB chaser handle, although still pricy.

This is what is called the "reduced kit" as some of the tools in the big kit are missing. Like a dishing tool, hub spanners, head set cup knock out tool (sometimes called the rocket tool) and others. Still this kit is highly valued by builders.

If you get use to working with these tools and then use Park or even Var tools you'll likely feel the finer fit and care that Campy tools are well known for.

Thanks for the replies I missed that the guide wasen't in the tool when i was checking off the tools that should be present. The only thing I noticed was missing was the crank extractor. Do you see any thing else missing? I am hoping the taps are english but with a $700 buy it now price I didnt think it would last long if I started msg the seller.

If you have a metric (aka "French thread" 35 x 1mm) bottom bracket facer pilot sleeve you don't think you'll be using, I'm interested in getting one.

And if one of the BB guide sleeve sets in a Swiss I will likely out bid John on it:) Andy

Hello, I have an identical Campagnolo tool kit to the one above, and I do not know the year. I believe it is from the early 80's. Any info on it would be appreciated.

Your question isn't the same as the OP's, why tag onto a five years old thread when you could start your own and get answers to your question?

This kind of question is so open ended... What specifically is your first question. Value??? As mentioned years ago in this thread, there's a lot of info stamped on the tools and cutters. Sadly the industry is moving away from the dimensions that this tool kit is meant to support. Andy

The chamfering cutter on the head tube mill suggests that it is mid-70s production at the earliest. Earlier head tube mills did not chamfer the head tube race seats; the chamfering was introduced to accommodate the aluminum Super Record headset pieces.

I wonder how "identical" the new guy's set is to the other guy's tools.

Plastic trays for the box were the standard by 1977. One doesn't see many of these "reduced" kits. Andy.
