Never underestimate Clif bar wrappers, or any Mylar type wrapper. Those suckers are tough. Gel wrappers are even tougher, easily good enough to boot a cut tire.

I often recycle energy bar wrappers as toe warmers in cold weather. They work great, reflecting heat back to the toes while not getting sweaty and risking frostbite like a plastic bag over the entire foot.

I’m curious, if it wasn’t leaking, how did she decide where on the tube to put the patch?
The bicycle had been standing still for months, so she decided it must be leaking. It was as good lesson for her, because every-time I get the chance I remember her about this
You are right, kids these days are too pampered. But most grown up have also become a bunch of lazy whineers i.m.h.o.

I understand the flat tire>leak conclusion, erroneous as it is. It sounds like she just sort of picked a random spot to put the patch on though, that's the part that confuses me.

that is another good reason to blue locktite your spokes,

rode home on an araya 7x mtb back rim after 3 flats, extremely loud, people gawking wondering about all that racket, , slick as ice, anything more than a 2 degree curve and the back slides out, made it home, but every spoke was loose as a goose,
very low rolling resistance, like a freight train, i dropped everybody,

She must have picked a random spot. I don't know, I wasn't there. I just found the unfinished job she did. She probably got bored and just glued on a patch. Those millennial have the attention span of a blown tire

She probably patched the flat part; You know, at the bottom of the tire where it touches the ground.
