Squeaky Creaky Saddle
My saddle squeaks and creaks. It's driving me nuts.
It's a gel seat with springs -- you can see it here. I've checked the seatpost and the rails and the clamp holding the rails. They're all adequately tight, the rails had a thin film of grease applied before clamping down. I'm thinking it's the springs themselves, or where they're attached to the plastic base of the saddle. And that hosing down the whole underside of the saddle with either WD-40 or silicone spray lube. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance... |
Stay away from WD-40. Drip some actual lube anywhere two surfaces or materials meet, including where the rails join the nose.

I've seen (or heard as the case is here) many sprung mattress type saddles have little squeaks and such. Try placing a tiny drop of oil on each spring's end where the last spring loop hooks into the metal shapes. Andy

Thanks, Rolla and AndrewRStewart.
I've applied a bit of oil (no, not WD40) to everywhere the springs meet something else. In about an hour, I've got to go out, get to another part of Brooklyn, meet some friends. I'm estimating about ten miles tonight, which should be enough to see how oiling everything worked. |
My seat squeaked like crazy, it was a new seat and post. This weekend I put a thicker film of grease under the lower plate of the clamp, where you adjust the seat's angle. That solved it.
