Ballistol, any users?
I have Ballistol on hand and use it for cleaning black powder firearms. Tried it as a chain cleaner and it seemed to work fine, followed of course by a specific chain lube. Curious if others have tried it and what they think of the results.

There's far less expensive solvents.
Your call. |
Never tried it but for a lot less $$ you can soak the chain in a jar of Odorless Mineral Spirits. Save the used spirits as the gunk settles to the bottom of the jar and can be re-used many times. Let the used OMS sit for a few days, pour off the clean stuff, wipe out the leftover gunk with a rag and throw in the trash. Nothing goes down the drain or into your garden.

I use it on my guns. I'm sure it works fine on chains but it's $80.00/gal  I do kinda like the smell.

The price is outrageous, but as a cleaner and even more so as a lubricant - it's far from the worst option in my experience.
Having said that, I keep it for the firearms (it's my favourite "tool" for that purpose) and use cheaper alternatives for the bikes. |
