Valve Caps

Where do you guys buy your replacement valve caps after they drop off or crack into pieces? I've only seen valve kits online for 10 bucks and I'm not going there. Thanks for your response.

Yep, auto parts stores will have several different options. You can get 4 standard plastic ones for under $2. Then there are the dice, skulls or other plastic adornment caps for a couple of bucks more. The light-up and the chrome caps are the most expensive, (I think about $6-7 for a set of 4.

I cruise the local BART station for 'em.....

Seriously, I can't recall ever having to buy one. For some reason I seem to always have a pile on hand, maybe cuz I'm always bringing stray bikes home and I also maintain the family fleet. Either that, or they breed like rabbits in my tool chest.......

Well, all Prestas should be wearing their Schrader adapters anyway, right?

Not if you carry the proper pump. Besides even if you feel you require an adapter you only need one.

After just a month of frustration and bent stems trying to pump presta directly, I bought a pile of the adapters to put on everything. I could mail him my 10 or so surplus presta caps.

Plus a backup in case you misplace it.

Valve caps keep dirt out of the valves. If dirt contaminates the valve, the valve core will not seat properly and the result is a slow leak.

I thought we settled this in that other thread; valve caps are too heavy to consider using, and you should be shunned for even asking!
