SHIMANO Deore RD-M592 Rear Derailleur HELP
I own a Trek Verve 11-36 cassette 9 speeds . Currently has an Acera rear Mech and Acera Shifter . I've had nothing but trouble with this Derailleur. If it gets the slightest bit of dirt involved the jockey wheels seem to mess up. So simple question . The Shimano Deoore RD-M592 says it will work for 9 speeds . Do I need to change the Shifter as well. Actually if I could locate a Deore Shifter in 9 speeds I would . Or am I missing something . I have a deore shifter on another bike and it has no numbers associated with the shift . It's 10 speeds .
Also the hanger is based around the frame or the RD ?

ANY Shimano rear derailleur (Mt or road) up to 9 speed mountain and 10 speed road is compatible with your 9 speed rear shifter. Cage length should also be fine with the 592. Mounting should bolt right into your existing hanger.
At 10 speed mountain and 11 speed road, changes were made to the rear derailleur pull ratios that require compatible shifters.

Thanks . Is there a better RD that would work ? I don't need to go over board .. Also with a 9 speed is there any advantage to a better pulley . ? Is there a place to get this knowledge from ? I realize it's just an $800 bike So I don't need to go crazy . This ACERA RD that came with the Bike was great when I first road it . But the Bike has about 800 miles on it . I'm already having issues . Would like to make sure I get a nice setup. So I'd be willing to invest more funds without getting crazy overboard . I'm good at fixing stuff But terrible doing online research figuring out what to use . Kinda like INFO overload
I'd go for a Deore 9 speed RD - they're pretty solid.

Take a look at the M591. It's similar but normal (non-Shadow) with a convenient barrel adjuster.

It's really almost impossible to find good info online . Shimano seems to change teh name of things and not change the quality . I wish I could find a better 9 speed setup . See plenty of 10's in the others you mentioned but no 9's . I also can't find a Deore Shifter in 9 speeds otehr tehn what someone is calling a Triple shifter

Define "jockey wheels mess up". While Acera is near the bottom of their line up, pretty much any Shimano RD is pretty bulletproof for a few thousand miles with at least minimal maintenance.
Makes me wonder if there is some other issue in play. Bent hanger? cable issue?
Regarding the original post - The replaceable derailleur hanger on the dropout is frame specific and all modern derailleurs use the same M10 X 1.0 threading.

Thanks : I looked at this on . I called the place and they said 34 is the largest Cog? So I assume I'd be screwed with 11-36 ?? This is all greek to me . I used to be a Bike expert . I worked in a Bike shop until I was 30 . But everything has basically changed as far as terms used goes . After 30 years out of it what can I say beside HUH?

Shimano is generally conservative on their cog size rating, but whether it works with your 36 is often a function of hanger design/length and other factors which control the distance between the cassette and RD.

36t- maybe
Yes, there is a very good chance the 591 will work with 36t but no guarantee. I'm currently using a 9 speed LX (similar spec) with a 36t, no issues.

Once I get about mid way the Cage starts to can't sideways . So I can get to the largest cog using barrel adjusters (2) . But then it's to far adjusted it won't return and VISA versa . I took it apart and cleaned it all. And still the cage won't line up under the larger sprockets . It didn't when it was new . But I really didn't notice it at first . Then I was in an accident and broke several ribs . So while I mended my warranty ran out . I can manually force the derailleur over . It does line up better . But it's still not under teh right spot . Adjusting the limit screw any further out and the chain comes off. I screwed around with it all day yesterday .
My only other conclusion is that it was made wrong before it was ever installed .
So I figured so long as I am stuck with a bill anyway . I may as well upgrade to a better Derailleur.
Not something I intended on doing . It's a Bike I purchased to go for group rides with the wife and all the OLD farts my age . That bought (STEP THRUS)

What ? Where did you locate an LX ? In 9 speed that is . I've looked at better quality components . I can find 10 speed but No 12 . I'd prefer a Deore Shifter but all I find is 10-11 speed . Although there's no numbering in the window . Do you have any idea what someone means by a Deore 3x9 Shifter . But he's calling it a Triple shifter . His description implies that it's a New design :: I've looked for upgraded Shifters as well . All 10 speed or higher . If I upgrade to more gears I'd probably be better of with a different Bike . A friend has one of those Pinion geared bikes . They are quieter But wasn't over impressed

First thing I'd do is get the hanger aligned.

the hanger isn't bent . Maybe I am using the wrong terms . The jocky heels look like thiis \ when on the largest sprocket . the hanger is fine . In the smallest sprocket it's dead nuts straight . Sorry for the confusion in my words.

Typically when shifting issues are not consistent across the cassette you will find it to be a hanger issue. Without the correct tool you don't know that it's not bent. 6-7 speed eyeballing it is usually "good enough", but as you move up in speeds you really need the tool.
Might look "dead nuts" on the small cog and as you move up the cassette the derailleur opens up and the distance between the hanger and the upper jockey gets longer allowing you to see the misalignment the hanger has. Kind of how M.O.A. works in sighting in a rifle.

My son had a prior bike with the rear Acera. He too bent the jockey wheel cage and it really messed up shifting. Took the wheel off and carefully used an adjustable wrench to bend it slightly back.
Bike after this, he had a 9 speed Deore M592. It shifted very similar to my Alivio M4000 that I had at the time. Only difference I could see and feel, was the Deore was fully made of metal and the Alivio was a composite/plastic. Still worked well.
But both the Deore and Alivio worked better than his prior 8 speed Acera 360 I think it was....
Now you stated a dirt issue with the jockey wheels...and yea, had that issue with my Alivio as well. Until I bought some affordable sealed bearing jockey wheels. I had gotten tired of taking the jockey cage apart to clean up the jockey's properly after my rides.

The 592 is the "Shadow" version of the 591. The thing I don't like about the 592 is lack of an adjustment barrel built in.
Acera may not be top of the line, but it's not bad at all and a RD lasts a lot longer than 800 miles. Something else is going on.

The new Alivio RD-M3100-SGS will handle 11 - 36

Most likely Shimano Deore will handle 36T, as others have said.
Also, Microshift M46 is specced to do it: Microshift M46L RD
It is less than half the price of Shimano M591. I run one with drop bar 9 speed shifters.
