Washer between crank and pedal?

Hi,
I was wondering if there should be a washer between the crank and the pedal? I have specialized strongarm 7050 cranks and shimano 424s.

T. A. Specialties uses them on the Cyclotouriste. They're French size. See part # 137:

If your cranks came with washers, use 'em. If not, don't sweat it. Truvativ (and anything manufactured by Truvativ, Bontrager, etc.) require pedal washers and they come with the cranks. Shimano cranks don't come with washers and don't need 'em. I don't know who makes Specialized cranks so I couldn't say for sure, but a lot of cranks *look* like there's a recessed space for a washer when you don't need one.

You can use them to stop the inside of your foot rubbing against the crank if you can mount your cleats any further inwards on your shoes.

I dont see any harm in using them even if the crank does not require it. My truvativ Stylo's came with them so i use them
