Ultegra 10 Speed Chain - Tiagra 10 speed cassette

Just double checking that these components are 100% compatible?

Thanks in advance.

When you say directional, it makes me think of rotation. However it does have a left and right side. As long as those are correct, it can be upside down or right side up. If one could only figure out which is the top and bottom of the chain.

As for the OP, only if the Ultegra is in fact a very old NOS Ultegra 10 speed and not the current 11 speed Ultegra.

CN-6600 is not directional and is triple crank compatible. CN-6700 is direction and originally was recommended for double cranks only. Why? I have no idea. And yes, they are both compatible with any level Shimano or SRAM 10-speed cassette.

I always thought the stamped logos on Shimano chains faced outwards.

On the CN-6600 (and KMC chains I have) the logos are stamped on both sides. I don't know about the "directional" models.

I contacted Shimano about this and got no answer. Only thing I can come up with is that the 6700 chains with the sideplate cutouts tended to crack with the more severe chain angles on a triple. I believe that some of the original 6700 chains had cracking issues and Shimano came out with a new 6701 designation for a, maybe, improved chain. All just speculation on my part so who knows for sure. Anyways my neighbor mentioned that his shop sold him a $$$$ Dura Ace chain for his 6700 triple instead of the CN-6700 chain until I convinced him to just get 10.93 or current equivalent KMC chains and no issues in over 20k miles with them.

I believe they have stamps on both sides but IIRC one sice has the made in xxx stamp and the other has the logo. Either way I always have the logo facing out.
