looks like it does well cutting down thru snow to the hard ice below, but looks like it has stability issues when leaning into a turn. shows us what benefits a pneumatic tire provides
what do those bikes w/ spikes use? or am I thinking of motorcycles?

In the original version the front wheel is oriented differently from the back wheel. The front wheel is oriented to supposedly facilitate braking: at the contact point the teeth point forward - against the direction of travel.
However, once they upgrade both wheels with extra paddles, the front wheel gets "reversed". Now the front teeth point back (same as the rear wheel).
Was that reversal accidental? Intentional? With paddles it probably does not matter anymore anyway...
