Mavic Crossride 26" Bearing replacement

Hi there

Need some help with my front hub. I have replaced the bearings (6804) on the front hub. Its the strange model that requires the left hand bearing to go through the entire hub body. At first I believe the bearing went in a little crooked as it wasn't spinning freely. Had another go at it this morning and managed to get them seated running buttery smooth.

The problem is when I insert the axle and refit the spacers etc. the axle does not spin freely. it feels like the bearings are grinding. I have checked with the technical manual that all the spacers and circplis are in the right order which they are. It seems like there is too much preload which is binding the bearings but I don't see any way to adjust it.
Anyone had the same issue and know of a possible solution?

I wonder if you pitted the bearings on install.

Bearings could still be crooked WRT each other.

Are you familiar with the preload adjusting ring and could it be too far in? Andy

Based on how they spin I would say that they are still intact but of course cant tell for sure.
If I only mount the axle then it spins okay and first when I mount the washer and spacers it tightens up. Do you mean the little metal clip that squeezes in between the two washers once installed?
Do you know if the bearing on the right hand side is suppose to sit snug up against the circlip on the inside of the hub?

So, I think I might have found the culprit. The inner circlip eyes were a little dent and when the bearing nested up against them they would prohibit the bearing from spinning freely. I turned it around and now everything seems to work.

Bearings

Whose bearings did you purchase?
I've a pair of Ksyriums that are going to need doing this year.

I bought some "Premo Bearing", at least that's what it says on the bearing. Based on the price they are probably some no-name brand but the wheels are rather old so didn't want to splash out for some pricier options.
