Integrated kickstand mount adapter solution?
 

I'm building up a touring/commuter bike with Paragon sliding dropout inserts. I need to attach a kickstand and I don't want the kind that clamps onto the seat and chainstays because they're heavy, can damage the frame, and look ugly. I often ride heavily loaded in the rear, so I don't want a center-mounted kickstand either because I've had bad luck with trying to load the rear and having the bike fall due to not enough support under the load (I have the clamp-on kind right now and it works, I just want something better for this new bike).

I love the integrated kickstand solution that some frames have - unfortunately mine doesn't have the mounts for it. But, looking at pictures, it got me thinking - is there any reason why one couldn't attach on some kind of adapter to the bolts that lock the Paragon inserts to the frame? Paragon recommends putting one of their washers there anyway, and if there was some kind of plate that acted both as a washer and then extended downwards with holes appropriately drilled for either KSA18 or KSA40 ...

Does such a thing exist or should I be calling up my machining friends? Any reason this couldn't work?

I'm having trouble picturing what you are describing, but if you have a cutout in your frame for a center-mount kickstand and the only problem you have with it is that a conventional kickstand won't support your fully-loaded bike, would you consider installing a double-leg kickstand? I have them on all my bikes and would never want to be without them. They hold the bike straight-up with as much weight on either side as I've ever needed to load.

Bolts doing double duty is not the best idea. Slider dropouts bolts already have their challenges in keeping the axle in place.

I am surprised that a dual leg center stand doesn't do it for you. Your experience is not what most all who use these types of stands usually claim. Andy

Both Hebie and Pletscher ESGE sell center mounted kickstand plates to braze onto the bottom of a frame. They both feature an aligning ridge that prevents the stand from shifting once it is tightened down. No crushing chainstays! The top plate no longer becomes necessary. Given the description of your needs, one of these with a two legged Pletscher kickstand should work.

Hi. Carver Bikes in the USA have a direct fit kickstand plate mounted to sliding rear dropouts on a titanium frame. The 3rd photo in this Instagram posting illustrates it in-situ. CarverBikes Instagram 02 June 2018, from 200 weeks ago. Titanium frame, drop bar Pinion Gearbox bike with S & S Couplings and belt drive.

RocketRider7 Thank you! This is exactly what I was talking about. I've ordered one. I'll keep an eye on it and change it out for something else if it seems like the dropout inserts/bolts can't handle the stress.
Andrew R Stewart Papa Tom it's the single leg center-mounted ones that were giving me problems, if the above solution doesn't work I'll go to a center-mounted double-leg.
elcraft I wish I could add a braze-on but sadly I don't have access to welding equipment.
