Shifters for Deore xt ?
I am switching from bar end shifters to trigger shifters on my Long Haul trucker which is a 10 speed with a Deore XT rear derailleur. Looking for help in figuring out what shifters to buy. I am switching to a Denham bar. Would any Shimano 10 speed mountain bike shifter work? Thanks for your help and reccomendations.

SL-M780 would be the ideal however XTR, SLX or Deore 10 speed Dynasys shifters would work as well. Also potentially if you angled some Paul Thumbies down you could reuse the barcons.

I would double check your rear derailleur part number. It’s possible it was spec’d with a “9 speed” model to work with “10 speed road” shifters, which have different pull than 10 speed MTB/dyna sis. Or check your current shifters to see whether they’re 10 speed “road” or “mountain” compatible.

^^^^^ This.
Just because the bike and cassette are 10 speed doesn't mean it's a 10 speed derailleur. Front derailleur road/mountain makes a difference as well. |
Not knowing the year, from what I see online, the 10 speed XT version has a T780 RD, which is a trekking RD. The spec'd bar end shifters are Microshift.
It is tough to find much on the trekking series as far as compatibility. But there was a German site that indicated that the T780 shifters are Dynasys 10 speed compatible and not compatible with 9 speed mtb RD's. While more research needs to be done, it would appear that 10 mtb shifters would work. John |
My bike is a 2014 trucker. The rear derailleur is an RD M771 thanks for the help

Your next assignment is to identify the front derailleur. If it is a Sora, you’ll need a road trigger. If it is Deore you’ll need a mtb trigger shifter. John |
