Since this happened right after you changed a chain, I have to think you somehow messed up the RD, and now it's in Crash Mode.

Di2 FAQ: - I had a crash and my rear derailleur stopped working. How do I reset it? (bettershifting.com)

Still seem to be a minority of all the other threads needing help with the cable pulled stuff.

Electronic shifting is on the minority of bikes.

It would be nice for the OP to let us know what the issue was. My vote is the improper logging out of e-tube, which effectively locks Di2 down.

I called the LBS and asked if I could try recovery mode. I tried it and no dice. I will let everyone know what they find out.

Sojodave
So you don't currently have the bike?

Specifically at some point did you connect to e-tube with a PC get a successful check that the system is operating correctly with all devices found then log out properly?

Maybe helpful in the future would be having one of these quick setup guides available?

I did use disconnect before I disconnected the cord. I can't wait to find out what was the problem.

I got my bike back and the Di2 is working and $12 later it's as good as new....Are you ready for the answer to the problem? It was a loose wire in the handlebars that connects from the DI2 controller to the junction box. DOH!!!! I asked him how in the world would changing your chain make a wire come loose in the handlebars. He said he has heard of stranger things.

Probably just coincidence. It happens. Electrical gizmos should always be checked for continuity from end to end when something is partially/not working.

Think a minute about how its not typical here for people to post about their Di2 systems being dead and they cannot figure out how to fix. Id say the vast majority are like me with multiple years of use with never an issue. Its like the introduction of auto automatic tranny's and all the nay sayers back then stating they'll never buy a car with one and here we are 70 years later and good luck finding a stick.

Except I don't like automatics, and I've had them for years, why don't I like automatics you scream? If you keep your cars for a long time, most cars, except for Toyota and Honda and their luxury brands, is that they only last no more than 150,000 miles, and today's 6 plus speed autos are very expensive to rebuild. I know, next you're going to tell me that clutches don't last long, that does depend on who is driving the manual, but all my clutches lasted over 200,000 miles and that included power shifting, besides, a clutch is far less expensive to replace than an auto trans.

However, another argument for auto trans is that supposedly they save more fuel than manuals do nowadays, well that's great till that transmission blows, then all the fuel you saved is gobbled up by the rebuild cost and then some.

Autos came into fad because Americans are lazy and can't drive their cars correctly, the same reason you can now find auto parallel parking on some cars, Americans can't park either even though that is supposed to be part of the driving test when you get your license!! Then along came auto slow and stop because Americans can't pay attention to their driving, auto warning of things to your left and right because Americans can pay attention to where they're at, and soon will come a true auto driving car because Americans simply can't drive period.

Oops, did I start a fire storm?

Did e-tube not identify the disconnected wire?

I recently finished a new frame up build. '22 Tarmac SL7 with 11 speed Di2. Got it all finished and running it through the gears on the stand...sigh, nothing from the rear der. Front working fine. OK start from the beginning...check the connection at the rear shifter...sure enough it wasn't connected. Apparently I did not push it in far enough for the "click" that indicates proper connection. Push the connector in properly and she is "alive".
First test ride went great. Just a couple of minor trim adjustments.
Generally it's always something simple...rule of thumb, "don't panic", start from the beginning and check everything first.

Glad it was a simple and inexpensive fix.
