Creak... creak...

Hello all,

I have a quick question. I am at work and I am stuck riding the works "patrol bike", one of the smith and wesson bikes (the 500 dollar ones). The bike has been neglected by its usual rider and a few things trouble d me. After digging through all the dirt that was caked everywhere I noticed a few things....

1. The crank when you pedal more than just spinning creaks on both side of the rotation with the pedals about at 3 and 9 oclock. It sound like a crunching sound and there is resistance in the crank. The arms are also flexing a bit when you stand on the pedals.

2. The rear cassette squeeks real bad,

3. The chain is dry, no lube and is rusting. A few of the links look real boad.

4. The brake pads look real bad.

The question is number 1... any ideas on what it is? BTW I refuse to ride their bike, I do not need the chain snaping and ending my season...

Look on the bright side.....you should be able to sue your employeer for millions if you hurt yourself.

Tell the cheapo boss to buy new bikes and actually have them maintained

A broken chain could end your season? Why? Just replace or re-connect the chain! duh!

Last time I had a broke chain it messed my right leg up quite badly and I was off the bike for about 2 weeks (this was about 8 months ago). My last race is in 8 days and having some kind of catastropic injury would kill the most important race of the season.

Do what your instinct tells you to do. It's always right...
